The Story

Is it super? Is it something? The Super Something is ready for anything, an incredibly versatile platform here to handle all of your variable road and terrain needs. This bike will be really fun in a variety of setup and is designed to grow and change along with your riding style.

Through designing hundreds of custom bikes, Adam found that there is no tool for a specific job like a truly custom built scalpel of a bicycle. Many of those one-offs ended up in Adam’s hands to try out new geometries, parts and ideas. Those bikes were fun, but they came and went. The bikes that stuck around seemed to be the generally built, all purpose bikes. Ones that could be fun season after season, or reimagined with a new handlebar, tires, or some new setup when it started to feel stale. The Super Something is a bike you will want to keep around forever. Adaptable for anything or something.

Design Philosophy

Keep it simple. In our eyes, every “Gravel Bike” falls somewhere on the spectrum between a fat tired road bike on one side and a mountain bike on the other. The Super Something is about 40% of the way along that spectrum. Not going for full-on new school MTB geometry - because there is something really fun about riding a road bike where you aren’t supposed to - but also not turning a blind eye to the developments we have made on bicycle geometry in the past few years. Generally, these bikes have a slightly longer reach. They are made in mind to be ridden with a 50-90mm stem for optimal handling. They are designed with 700x42c tires in mind, but will clear larger or smaller depending on where you want to ride or what you want to try. Trends come and go, but this frame is set up to stick around for a long time and handle those standards you will always fall back on.

Fit Guide

The Super something is designed with versatility in mind. That said, the “base setting” for this bike is a 700x42c gravel bike with a 70mm Anna Lee stem and drop bar. Each size was designed for a range of saddle heights with the 70mm stem setup falling right in the middle of the range. As a rule of thumb, these bike are designed to fit like the labeled size. If you normally ride a 54 you should probably get a 54, if you normally ride a 60 you should probably get a 60 and so on. Some riders might prefer to size down and run a longer stem/more seat post for a more aggressive roadie fit, while others might opt to go up with an even shorter stem for that french fit and more stable handling. For a riser/flat bar setup I would recommend planning around a longer stem (90-110mm) or even sizing up if you know you never want to run drops. Shoot me an email if you have any questions, I am happy to make recommendations. Here are the saddle heights I had in mind, measured from the BB center to the top of the saddle center.

48CM - 640mm to 680mm 56CM - 720mm to 760mm
52CM - 660mm to 700mm 58CM - 750mm to 790mm
54CM - 690mm to 740mm 60CM - 780mm to 820mm

These numbers are just rough suggestions. Please double check and ask us or your bike fitter if you have any questions or concerns.

SuperSomething FAQ's

What Brakes can I run on the SuperSomething?

The SuperSomething ships ready to run post mount brakes. These are the brakes that we love for all of our personal builds because of their ease of adjustment, power and versatility. If you would like to run flat mount brakes, you will need to order a flat mount rocker insert for the brake side dropout as well as a shorter thru axle (142mm), and a flat mount carbon fork for the front. You can also use an adaptor from AS Solutions or Wolf Tooth components that will allow you to use the steel fork that ships with the frame.

Do I need to use FrameSaver on my SuperSomething?

Super Something frames are ED coated before being painted to protect from rust forever, no need to use frame saver.

Can I run a front derailleur?

The Super Something is designed around a 1x drivetrain but a 2x drivetrain is possible depending on the desired chainring size.

Can I customize my build?

We are happy to swap out bars or tires and small things to make the bike truly yours, just send us a note to chat more about customizing your build. We also offer a fully custom build option.

Can I install racks or fenders on the SuperSomething?

You can run racks and fenders on the Super Something! We have built frames up with 700x50mm tires and fenders still fit nicely in there,  although if you live somewhere muddy you will probably want to run a max 48mm tire for some extra clearance.

The forks have a crown boss as well as a mid-blade and dropout boss that work with virtually any front rack. The rear end has 4 bosses as well that work great with most racks.

What size headset/crownrace do I need to order?

Here’s some SHIS for your bike mechanic. The Super Something framesets use a straight 1-1/8" steerer fork so make sure your headset is EC34/28.6 upper, EC44/30 lower.  This size is available from just about all modern headset manufactures and allows you to run a carbon fork (or even a suss gravel fork) if you desire by simply swapping out the lower crown race for a larger one to accommodate a tapered steerer (33 or 40).
We've made it easy for you to order the correct headset along with your frame HERE.

What is included with this frameset?

All frames ship with a seat post clamp and thru axles included.

Where are the framesets manufactured?

Production frames like the Super Something are manufactured in Taiwan.

How should I set up my adjustable dropouts?

We recommend checking that your bolts have a little grease on them and that the bolts are torqued to 25-28 N-m.

What brake adaptor do I need for my SuperSomething Fork?

The SuperSomething forks use a standard ISO brake mount. This means you will need an ISO adaptor to mount your post mount brakes. The size of adaptor depends on what size rotor you want to run. We like a 160mm rotor with hydraulic brakes and 180mm rotor for mechanical brakes. You want a 0mm adaptor for a 160mm rotor or a 20mm adaptor for a 180mm rotor.

Beautiful Frame Design

I’ll start out by saying that this is a really lovely and well-balanced bike with a great color. Every tube on the frame has been bent, butted or shaped so this is an incredibly nicely designed production frame and is very fairly priced considering the effort that goes into the tube set and finish. The frameset was purchased with a White Industries headset (originally ordered it in black and changed to silver) The frame arrived nicely packed and I then proceeded to chase and face the BB and face the steering tube along with running a tap through all of the threaded holes in the frame including thru axle dropouts as they had lots of paint in them. This frame absolutely needs to be fully prepped before assembly and I’m thankful that I have a full set of bike shop tools. Installed the BB cups and White Industries crank with no issues and then pressed in the headset cups. Went to install the crown race only to find that it had shipped with one for a 1-1/4” steerer instead of 1-1/8”. I contacted Adam and he sent the correct crown race with no issues. In the mean time I found that Cane Creek also makes a crown race that matches the White Industries bearings and was able to pick one up at my LBS and finish the build. I switched them out after receiving the WI part. The cable and brake line holders on the down tube are a nice touch and make for clean routing. Bike turned out really nicely and is a pleasure to ride.

Comfortable is fast.

The Super Something is an impressive ride—super comfortable and surprisingly lively, exceeding my expectations. Sklar's mechanical build was spot-on, making it an even easier decision that the Super Something was the right choice. It’s a bike that perfectly blends comfort with performance, making it a joy to ride on any terrain.

Love this bike!

This is a gift for my wife and built it up with 650b wheels and a flat bar for commuting and overnight camping with a front rack and a rear rack in the future. It's a great bike for so many things! Thanks Adam!

Awesome bike, but a little on the small side.

The Super Something build is an amazing bike build with high quality throughout and thoughtful in design. The only thing I wish I was able to do is ride it beforehand since it is a little small for my stature. Even though i provided my measurements it does not compare to an actual test ride. I would have most likely went with a 60 frame instead of the 58.
