Tom’s Eagle 90 Transmission Tall Tale Hardtail

Tom’s Tall Tale complete build is one of the first to roll out of the shop with the all-new SRAM Eagle 90 mechanical transmission drivetrain and sram’s new DB8 mineral oil brakes. I am often one to question new products. Sometimes I wait for the kinks to get worked out of the first few versions or sometimes because it seems like we are too caught up in innovating and not in making the best thing possible (see all my posts talking about how great 11 speed drivetrains are). Anyhow, I have to say this new Eagle 90 drivetrain stuff is pretty darn nice.

You may have noticed that the Tall Tale complete build kits got a little update earlier this summer and this is one of our new options. Most riders prefer mechanical shifting because you do not have to charge your bike and it is easier to adjust on the fly. The Eagle 90 system takes some design elements from SRAM’s electronic transmission systems - most noticeably the direct mount rear dearailleur which plays nice with the Tall Tale’s UDH dropouts. The updated controls feel like a big step up in ergonomics and the improvements to the way the cables and hoses come out of the controls is also much appreciated. SRAMs new dropper lever is a nice touch and really cleans up the handlebars because it can mount right on to the brake mount. The cranks and chainring are super nice… consider me a fan!

I also switched us over to cockpits from One Up. I’ve really been liking their bars and droppers and standardizing some parts is helping us stay caught up as volume is increasing on our completes bike department (AKA me and Stevie). 

Anyhow this build in particular is headed off to Tom. It is a size Medium frame in Pumpkin Pie with a 725mm saddle height. The saddle tip to handlebar center reach is 470mm.

Psyched for this bike to get out on the trail! Capable, simple, maintainable, reliable and FUN. What more could you ask for?
