PBJ Pre-order - Performance Basket Jammer rigid MTB
The Story
The Trusty PBJ - While this PBJ stands for “Performance Basket Jammer” the similarities to the tried and true sandwich are hard to ignore. While it is simple and universal, it gets the job done like no other. The PBJ is your go-to, this is the bike you can grab with no plans and take it anywhere. The handling is familiar and playful and it will bring you anywhere you want to go, just don’t forget to pack a sandwich!
Design Philosophy
The PBJ came about after many tries at making the “perfect” touring bike. Of course there is no perfect one bike, but dangit this one is pretty good at just about anything. Run it with a rigid fork and seatpost and 2.4-2.6” tires for an incredibly capable and comfy bikepacking and bicycle touring bike. Without bags it is fun for jamming on fast trails or urban cruising. Swap out the rigid setup for a 100mm fork and dropper post for a fast and capable XC MTB, or go anywhere inbetween! The Adjustable and modular rocker dropouts mean you can run singlespeed, gears or experiment with different chainstay lengths. I hate to say it, but if I had one bike it would be the PBJ. It really is fun all over. A bike you can truly get to know over many, many miles.

Fit Guide
The Performance Basket Jammer is designed a to fit like a pretty standard mountain bike. The “base setting” for this bike is with 29x2.6" tires, a 35-50mm stem and a nice swept back bar like the Soma dream riser or Crust Mushman. Each size was designed for a range of saddle heights in mind. Of course with MTB fit, some people like to size up for more nimble handling or size up for something more stable. Shoot us an email if you have any questions, we are happy to make recommendations, getting you on a properly fitting bike is our priority. Here are the saddle heights we had in mind, measured from the BB center to the top of the saddle center. Go measure yours on some of your bikes and see where you fit in to get a rough idea of sizing.
XS - 620mm to 660mm Small - 650m to 700mm
Medium - 690mm to 740mm Large - 730mm to 790mm
XL - 790mm to 830mm
These numbers are just rough suggestions. Please double check and ask us or your bike fitter if you have any questions or concerns.
PBJ FAQ's
What size Tires can I run on the PBJ?
The PBJ is designed around a 2.6" tire. Some larger tires may fit depending on your rim size and you could be happy running down to a 2.25" tire for faster trips.
How are the PBJ's finished?
The PBJ frameset is painted with Cerakote - a ceramic based paint which is more durable than traditional paints.
Can I run a drop bar on this bike?
It has been done. We like to set up our PBJ's with Short pull mechanical brakes and levers incase you ever want to swap out bars/levers for fun. That said, this bike is designed for a riser bar, so it may be tricky to get the fit just right depending on your size.
What mounts are on the fork?
The fork has rack/bag support mounts at the dropout, mid-blade and an M6 boss at the crown. It also has 3-bolt cargo cage mounts on each leg.
What size headset/crownrace do I need to order?
Here’s some SHIS for your bike mechanic. The PBJ steel forks use a straight 1-1/8" steerer fork so make sure your headset is EC34/28.6 upper, EC44/30 lower. This size is available from just about all modern headset manufactures and allows you to run a suspension fork if you desire by simply swapping out the lower crown race for a larger one to accommodate a tapered steerer (33 or 40).
What is included with this frameset?
All frames ship with a seat post clamp and thru axles included.
Where are the framesets manufactured?
The PBJ is made by hand in Bozeman, MT USA in our small shop.
