One Last Flat Bar SuperSomething
The SuperSomething gravel bike was the first production bike that we offered here at Sklar. Like many gravel bikes, it is an incredibly versatile platform. You can put pretty fat or pretty skinny tires on it depending on the type of terrain you would like to ride. You can run all sorts of gearing as well. You can even run different styles of handlebars. Take, for instance, this flat bar build. When we first put together build kits for this frame, we offered them mainly in the drop bar flavor but we also did a few flat bar kits because that is fun too. My daily commuter is a SuperSomething with a swept-back bar and I love riding it around the city. That said, at the end of the day, the SuperSomething is a gravel bike designed around drop bars and with the introduction of the PBJ frameset we are going to steer all you flat bar folks that way.
Anyhow, here is a flat bar SuperSomething! This one is extra special because it is headed to my friend Joel who lives in the beautiful Methow Valley of Washington. Joel was one of the first people I met when I moved to Bozeman, Montana. In addition to many fun ski adventures, Joel and I played in several bands together and spent many nights playing music late into the night. Such sweet memories. Joel and his wife Claire now own and operate Goats Beard Mountain Supplies in Mazama, WA. Make sure to stop by and check it out if you are ever in the neighborhood!
Now on to the bike. Joel and Claire ride pretty similar-sized bikes, so they wanted something they could share for cruising around their nordic ski trail in the summertime, and this is what we came up with: the very last size 56 SuperSomething frame in beautiful Honey Dijon yellow. It is built up with our house wheelset, the Astral Outback gravel wheels. For the drivetrain, we went with good ol' reliable SRAM GX, a budget-friendly Apex crank, and some hydraulic disc brakes from Shimano. Of course we are also running the Titanium Seatpost (back in stock in a few months) a SuperStemThing Stem, and the PBJ Handlebar. What a sweet build! I also really like how the 50 mm Ramblers fit up on this frame, so much so that I ordered a set for myself.
All in all, this is a sweet bike for biking around! Fast, capable. It's a performance hybrid, what more could you ask for? While we won't be offering these flat bar builds in stock form anymore, it is still a great option and an example of how a good bike can be set up in all sorts of ways to serve you well over the years.
